Dorethea Beaston: I'm doing a group project for school and we're supposed to be designing an office of some sort. Our group decided to go with a medical office, and my task is to figure out what sort of software programs are used in a medical office. Some of our thoughts were billing software, scheduling software, and prescription software. I figured asking on here would be better than blindly searching on yahoo. Any advice you could give would be helpful. Just some names of programs that medical offices use would work. I could always look up whatever else I needed to know about them. Also, any other software that might be used, or that is used, that we haven't thought of, let me know....Show more
Rosalba Lingner: EMR, Medical Billing, Scheduling, Transcription, Inventory Management are just a few of the typical modules. Often the software vendors "Practice Management" offerings are suites that include all of the above. There's a fairly comprehensive list of EMR S! oftware and Medical Software vendors that you can access to see sample offerings.EMR Softwarehttp://www.knowledge-maps.com/emr-softwareMedical Billing & Practice Management Softwarehttp://www.knowledge-maps.com/medical-billing-soft......Show more
Majorie Chester: Not prescription software - that's what pharmacists do.Billing, purchasing, general bookkeeping, payroll, (those are all an accounting package) patient records, scheduling, time clock, inventory, electronic 3rd party billing (believe me - that's a whole industry in itself - even just keeping up with HCFA is 2 full-time jobs)And that's for a general practice office. Specialties each require their own little special programs.(I'm just glad that I'm not in the medical software writing business any more - it's ironic that people who write medical software need a good relationship with doctors - for ulcers and heart attacks. Give me unarmed grizzly bear fighting any day - it's safer.)...Show more
Coleman ! Deliberato: It depends on what type of medical office you're t! alking about. Medical providers / doctors tend to have two major types of software:PRACTICE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE -- these packages handle scheduling, billing, patient (non-medical) records, etc.ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS -- these packages handle actual patient records and can include many practice management features as well. Most offer provisions for scanning, fax-to-image, and remote access.Pharmacies will, of course, have dedicated pharmacy software. A lot of medical software companies offer 'modules' to handle these and other functions.Medical payers (insurance companies and HMO's) have dedicated packages as well....Show more
