Tana Dumoulin: Never use cheap laundry detergent it doesn't pay off, I'm not sure what country your in, but its best to use the brands what are most well known.
Ester Bryand: Your laundry detergent won't be enough and dryer sheets are toxic. Your best bet is soap. Put bars of soap in your closet and in your drawers. This will help a lot. Soap neutralizes the smell of smoke. There is also a product called "Smells BeGone" that removes the smell of cigarette smoke. Smells BeGone has no smell of its own. It doesn't just mask odors, like most air fresheners and perfumes do...Smells BeGone actually gets rid of the smells. You can spray Smells BeGone on your clothes and hair anytime you leave the house. This will get rid of the smoke smell you're carrying with you. You can buy Smells BeGone at Ace or Aco Hardware. You can also buy it over the Internet:http://www.google.com/shopping/product/45763321048...And I would stick with the spray. The Smells BeGone solid air fresh! ener reeks. And it gave me a huge headache. The spray has no smell and I had no reaction to it. My dogs don't react to it either, so its claim of being non-toxic seems to be true.Another trick -- sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon in your parents' ashtrays. The cinnamon does wonders to combat the smell of cigarettes. Good luck....Show more
Cody Petrulis: Well, detergent is purely personal preference. Everyone has a different view on which one is the best, works the best, smells the best, etc. So here are a few pointers:-You can't go wrong with Gain for its strong scent. A little perfumy, but it cleans fairly well.-Purex Natural Elements is a bargain detergent. It only cleans average, but it has a much more natural scent.-Era liquid is what I use. In my opinion in cleans the best and smells very good, but it doesn't last quite as long.-Surf powder sparkling ocean is known for long-lasting freshness, but powder can be messy to use-I use Bounce original dryers s! heets-Gain dryer sheets work well but my fiancé is allergic :! /The thing is that if you live in a house with smokers, they will pick up odors quickly, so it will be hard to keep them fresh. That doesn't mean they will immediately smell bad, but the detergent may not be quite as noticeable.Oh and you may eventually stop noticing the smell of detergent as you get used to it, that doesn't mean the smell is still there :)...Show more
Ronnie Panas: Any clothes will smell if you wash themAll detergents claim to leave your washing smelling niceYou can buy draw liners to fragrance your clothes And if your parents smoke the best thing you can do is keep your door closedThis will stop the smell entering your room
Joeann Hoyt: It's a matter of preference. All the synthetic detergents like Tide can be harsh on clothes. Tide is rated well, but so is Wisk and it's less expensive. I like Gain, but its freshness doesn't last. Surf is one of the more expensive detergents out there. It works better Tide in my opinion. You cannot only use dete! rgent in your laundry and expect your clothes to stay fresh smelling. Detergents are designed to remove dirt and some oils, but that's about it. Most do nothing to effectively remove odors. Acids and fabric softeners can take care of that problem...Show more

Dexter Dicostanzo: Which Detergent Works The Best
Marcellus Exler: Tide works great....especially the tide pods. They come with detergent and scent. Also, for laundry sheets, you could use Downy. You should get some of those Glade odor absorbers and place them in the room in order to absorb some of the smoke odor.
