Yes he has the greatest mil! itary in the world at his disposal, but the political masters (read civilians) have tied his hands. In the military, you are sworn to support and defend the constitution. You give up some rights while doing that. You cannot criticize the chain of command or the policies of that chain to any one below you. You can voice your concerns to the person above you. More likely than not, that person will tell you to "shut up and color" and then go to his superior. Eventually (read hopefully), the complaint/suggestion will make it to a person that can make changes. Military leaders have an obligation to obey the lawful orders of those appointed over them and the president. When given a lawful order, it is a soldier's/sailor's/Marine's/Airman's duty to obey without question. I'm glad that the General spoke out, but not in the manner that it happened. He may very well be the man to win in Afghanistan, but we will probably never find out. If I was a betting man, he will be as! ked to step down and quietly leave the Army. I doubt there is a person! outside of the military that can criticize the job he has done and I doubt there is any one that knows more of the situation there than he does.
