White Air Jamaica Aircraft?

Barton Slisz: I agree with Sawbuck that Air Jamaica may be changing the color scheme on its aircraft. The previous color scheme had a lot of paint on it and you would be surprised how much extra weight paint is on an aircraft. Less paint means fuel savings and less in labor charges to put the paint on the aircraft.

Hilma Pestano: I don't know the answer in this particular case but many airlines lease aircraft from other airlines to cover peak demand. Air Jamaica, serving a resort island, probably needs more seats in winter than in summer. They could lease a plane from a European airline that carries more passengers in summer time. That way, the plane is in use year round, both airlines make money, and everyone is happy! The blue tailfin in the one photograph certainly suggests part of another airline colour scheme. The other possibility is that Air Jamaica, like many other airlines today, is moving to an all-white scheme (less paint means less weight, and the! refore lower fuel bills)....Show more
